Covid-19 Updates

Please note that this information is based on the announcement from the Japanese government as of September 7, 2022, and may be altered in the near future.

Current COVID-19 measures and policies in Japan

The government of Japan is still implementing the "border measures" against Covid-19 for those who are entering Japan. For details, please see the following page:

Before you enter Japan…

1) Have an "Entry Visa" ready.

All non-Japanese citizens must have an entry visa beforehand. For details, please see the following page on our website:

2) Prepare a "Valid Vaccination Certificate" or "Pre-Departure Test Certificate".

All entrants into Japan, whether you are Japanese or non-Japanese, must submit either of the two following documents at the immigration gate on your arrival;

   A) a valid vaccination certificate (3 doses)
   https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/covid-19/border_vaccine.html

   B) a negative certificate of COVID-19 inspection test within 72 hours before departure
   https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/covid-19/border_test.html

3) Check whether you will be required to quarantine yourself or not.

The government of Japan has divided the countries or regions in the world into three groups;  BLUE ,  YELLOW , and  RED .

*1 Your isolation will be terminated if Covid-19 test is negative on the third day of isolation. You will be required quarantine for a total of 5 days if you do not take the test.
*2 Your isolation will be terminated if Covid-19 test is negative on the third day of isolation at the facility.
Country or region of your stay before arrival Valid vaccination certificate Quarantine
Pre-departure test On-arrival test Isolation
BLUE with not required - -
without required
YELLOW with not required - -
without required required 3days at home *1
RED with not required required 3days at home *1
without required required 3days at facility *2

If you are coming to Japan from a " BLUE " country/region, basically you will not be required to isolate yourself after your arrival in Japan.

If you are coming to Japan from a " YELLOW " country/region, then you should definitely have a "valid vaccination certificate" ready and submit it on your arrival in Japan, because, if not, you will be required to isolate yourself for at least 3 days after your arrival, plus you will have to pay for your hotel by yourself. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you prepare a "valid vaccination certificate" before you come to Japan.

On the other hand, if you are coming to Japan from a " RED " country/region, then you should NOT prepare a "valid vaccination certificate." This may sound strange to you, but if you do not have a certificate, then you will be taken to a designated hotel by the Japanese quarantine officers at your arrival airport, and you do not have to pay for the hotel. Furthermore, they will take care of everything you will need with the Covid-19 test and health-condition monitoring until the last day of your isolation. The designated hotel prepared by the Japanese government will be an ordinary hotel, and you will find it neat and comfortable.

Please note that your country/region will not be determined by "where you live," but "where you were in the last two weeks before your arrival in Japan." For example, if you live in India (yellow), but stayed in Singapore (blue) more than two weeks before you come to Japan, then you will be regarded as an entrant to Japan from Singapore (blue).

4) Make sure that you have "Travel Insurance."

Some foreign residents may not be applied to Japanese public medical insurances, so we recommend that you take out a travel insurance to cover all the medical expenses during your stay in Japan.

5) Prepare a mobile device (phone, tablet, PC, etc.).

On your arrival in Japan, you may be required to install some apps into your mobile device. If you do not have one, they will tell you to rent one at the quarantine station, and you will have to pay for the rent. It may be better that you rent a mobile device before you come to Japan, for example, at your departure airport.

6) Pre-register in "MySOS App" or "MySOS Web."

You should pre-register yourself in "MySOS App" or "MySOS Web" at least "6 hours" prior to your flight's scheduled arrival time. This will make it easier and smoother for you to go through the airport quarantine procedures.
